Drinking Water: Aruba’s drinking water flows from the world’s second largest desalinization plant. It is not only perfectly pure and safe to drink, it’s delicious!Electrical Power: 110 v AC (60 cycles) is identical to that utilized in the United States.
International Telephone Calls: Aruba enjoys one of the finest telecommunications systems in the Caribbean. The code into the international circuit is 00 followed by country code, area code and the number. For assistance, please call 121. To dial direct to Aruba from the U.S, the code is 011-297.
Banking Hours: Monday - Friday, 8 am to 4 pm. The Bank at the airport is also open weekends from 10 am to 6 pm. Aruba Bank on Mainstreet in Oranjestad is open on Saturday from 9 am to 1 pm.
Post Office: The Central Post Office is located diagonally opposite San Francisco Church in Oranjestad (see map). Open Monday - Friday, 7:30 am till noon and 1 pm to 4:30 pm. The Post Office in Royal Plaza Mall is open Monday – Saturday: 7 am to 6:45 pm. When using the postal service, please use Aruban stamps.
Holiday Closings: Aruba celebrates both international and local holidays, during which time banks and public offices are closed, busses run less frequently and there are less taxis available. Some stores are open in the morning and most restaurants are open, but it is wise to call first to be sure.
Gasoline: Gas pumps register in liters: 1.06 quarts to 1 liter or 3.78 liters to 1 gallon. Prices at gas stations are in Aruban florins (Afl. 1.75 to U.S.$1.00). Most gas stations have attendants who pump gas for you.
Safety: Although our island is considered one of the safest destinations in the Caribbean, occasional incidents may occur. For your own safety please don’t leave valuables unattended. Before driving, please take a look at our “Rules of the Road” which you will find on the roadmap in the back of this magazine.
Taxis: Rates are set by the government and are based on destination rather than mileage, other facts including the number of passengers also affect the fare.
